University Collaboration Programme

The Community Banker project announces its University Collaboration
Programme. The intent behind this programme is to involve
universities and other academic institutions from around the world
when sourcing material for students who are required to complete
practical exercises in programming and information systems.

Greetings Bank-Builders,

John has been busy working on the Accounting pages of wiki [see
bank-builders.wikidot.com ] and has defined a separate Trading Ledger
within the system and then the external accounting system (in our case
GNUCash) for everything else the Credit Union needs.

Without naming names, I know there are several competent accountants

GNUCASH

gnuCash will produce a default CoA for a typical business
File --> New --> New Account Hierarchy
starts a druid (aka "wizard") which lets one chose to set up "Business
Accounts".

There are five sections to the Business CoA ...
* assets
* liabilities
* income
* expenses
* equity

I think that a wiki expert would have no trouble (given the right
access) extracting the data from any wiki into another. I've asked
Wikispaces if they offer that kind of facility.

Yes, it looks as if we need to use something like AccountClass -- an
abstract group of any accounts to which rules such as dormancy/
freezing/lending default etc. can be applied. The world's various

Hi Bank-builders,

I have uploaded Jan's chart of accounts (Pastel style) which he
prepared
for Southern Cross Credit Union. I am not sure how well this will
translate in gnucash but will perhaps John can take a look and offer
any
advice. I am keen to try and get gnucash setup to work with

Just a quick thought - if we spend all the effort to populate a wiki on a
hosted sight will we be able to save a local copy as I would like to
eventually deploy a "cleansed" version with communitybanker?

I've been having a quick look for a wiki for the project.
We can set up our own wiki for bank-builders using free sites such
as Wikispaces and Wiki.com. Both sites guide one step by step through
the process of setting up a wiki and are said to be very useful for
beginners ;)
